Again, Venus Williams is getting more attention for her outfit than her actual play – this time at the current U.S. Open in New York City. The 3rd-ranked tennis star took the court Sunday (Sept. 5) in a short, tight, sparkly, pinkish red dress that frequently rose above her waist. Yet this time, her exposed undershorts were not flesh-colored, thus clearly understood to be undershorts and not her bare rear end.

“This outfit was supposed to be about New York. It’s like bursts of fireworks,” she said of her latest selection. Williams won the match against 16th-seeded Peer 7-6 (3), 6-3 to reach the U.S. Open quarterfinals for the 10th time. Venus is scheduled to face Italy’s Francesca Schiavone today (Sept. 7) at 11 a.m. EST on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The ongoing custody drama between Dwight Howard and his ex had another flare-up in late August. The NBA star was contacted by cops after he removed his child from day care – allegedly against the custody agreement arranged with the child’s mother, Royce Reed, a cast member of VH1′s “Basketball Wives.” When Howard went to pick up their 2-year-old son on Aug. 26th, Reed, currently in a custody battle with Howard, flipped out and called police because she claimed the custody agreement didn’t give Howard the right to pick the child up that day. By the time Reed arrived at the day care center, Howard had already took off with their son. Police then called the NBA player, who explained he and his ex made a new agreement, giving him the right to pick up the child that day. But the cops, after speaking with lawyers from both sides, said the new custody agreement was discussed but never signed. They ordered Howard to return the child to the day care center, immediately. Howard’s nanny took the boy back to school and Reed took him home.

As previously reported, Royce is legally banned from mentioning Howard’s name on “Basketball Wives.” The Orlando Magic star and his lawyers took action against Royce after she blasted him on the Internet and in an ESPN interview — calling him a dead beat dad and other choice words. In December 2009, Dwight won a permanent injunction banning Royce from “using or publishing (orally, in writing, or otherwise), directly, indirectly or by innuendo, [Dwight's] name, nicknames, image, brand photographs, and/or likeness.”

The official decision has been made to strip Reggie Bush of his Heisman Trophy. The organization is completing its investigation and will agree with the NCAA’s finding that Bush accepted improper benefits while at USC and was ineligible during the 2005 season. The Heisman Trophy Trust will reportedly strip Reggie Bush of the Heisman Trophy that he won in a landslide back in 2005. Bush will be the first player in the 75-year history of the Heisman Trophy to have the award taken away. In July, USC president C.L. Max Nikias ordered the school’s athletic department to return its copy of Bush’s 2005 Heisman to the Heisman Trophy Trust. Nikias also ordered the school to remove nearly all references to Bush and former basketball player O.J. Mayo, including murals, as part of the NCAA’s directive to disassociate the school from the athletes.

Another person caught up in a sex tape scandal. The New England Patriots’ rookie linebacker Brandon Spikes (I have no clue who this dude is) was xposed when a 11 minute video of him receiving oral sex hit the net this week. The former University of Florida star was caught up butt ass naked and now he must pay the price. Spikes’ agent, Terry Watson, has confirmed that the heavily-tattooed NFL star in the video indeed Brandon. “It was something that occurred before he became an NFL draftee and a New England Patriot. “I think for anyone it would be an embarrassing situation,” Watson said. While some reports claim an anonymous e-mailer offered the video for $1,500, the Spikes sex tape ultimately ended up on WorldStarHipHop.com. As a result of the scandal, Reebok recently pulled out of an endorsement deal with Spikes, yanking a marketing agreement that would have netted the NFL star millions. The sportswear brand, however, has issued a statement denying that any such agreement was ever in place. With the video showing up on several Internet sites, Spikes could face disciplinary action under the league’s rules of personal conduct policy. Despite this setback, Spikes is hoping to put this behind him and looks forward to having a great football season.”

Usain Bolt, who celebrated his 24th birthday over the weekend, signed a three-year deal of a lifetime with German apparel Puma on Tuesday. This is said to be the biggest contract for a track-and-field athlete. Although contract terms of the deal were not released, Puma chairman and CEO Jochen Zeitz said Bolt would be the “best-paid athlete in track and field history.” For his birthday, Bolt just chilled at home. It was the first time in seven years he’d been in his own country on his birthday.

Tennis champ Serena Williams is single and ready for love. Despite pulling out of the U.S. Open tournament due to an injured right foot and ending her two-year relationship with rapper and actor Common in April, Williams is in the market for Mr. Right. So what should a guy do to date the top-ranked women’s tennis player in the world?

“Call me! It’s that easy. Just pick up the phone and call me!”

More importantly, Williams wants to date a man with strong family values.

“I’m looking for a guy who is close to his parents – his mom mostly because you can learn a lot about a guy by the way he treats his mom,” she says. “And someone who loves themselves because if they take care of themselves, they are able to take care of you.”

As for dating deal-breakers, the tennis ace reveals she’s not keen on bad habits.

“I don’t like smokers, and of course people who disrespect their parents and families. Family is very important to me.”

Although Williams describes herself as “rough and tough” on the tennis court, off the court she insists men shouldn’t find her threatening.

I recently reported that “Basketball Wives” Jennifer Williams’ husband Eric Williams supposedly had a kid with another woman. Well the woman, whose name is Brandy, decided to tweet Jennifer a pic of her 18 month old son Jaden just to confirm that the baby does exist.

The Boston Celtics announced Wednesday that it has signed 6-foot-3 guard Delonte West, despite his suspension for the first 10 games of the 2010-11 season after pleading guilty to weapons charges in Maryland. Maryland authorities said he was carrying two loaded handguns, a loaded shotgun and an 8 1/2-inch Bowie knife while speeding on a three-wheel motorcycle on the Beltway last September. He was sentenced to home detention but is allowed to travel to games. West played his first three seasons with Boston before being traded to Seattle in 2007 in the deal that brought Ray Allen to the Celtics. West has averaged 10 points and 3.7 assists over his career. He was waived last month by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who had acquired him only a week earlier in a trade with Cleveland. West made headlines last spring for a rumored affair with Gloria James, the mother of his then-Cavaliers teammate LeBron James. He’s coming against a Filipino fighter soon, Manny Pacquaio, and he’s doing his normal agitating to get his challenger amped up for the fight. In the video, he’s talking about how he’s going to whoop up on Pacquaio, but he goes on to say some things like: “Once I kick the midget ass. I’m going to make him make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice.” [he responds to someone on his cell phone] “You know how it is they cook that [expletive] with cats and dogs!” It’s not clear who or what he’s responding to when he says, “This America! We built on women! Step your game up faggot!” And on and on in that vain.
